Sony Tablet S
I recently noticed Sony Tablet S and I investigated its features with a few reviews. I try to summarize below the main points.
Sony’s Tablet S certainly has a unique design among the wide selection of Android tablets, The Tablet S takes a wedge shape invokes the image of a notebook or book with its flap folded back on itself. This gives it a slight angle making it easier to read when it is placed on a flat surface and also makes it easy to hold like a book in its upright form thanks to its contour. It should be noted that the folded design also makes the Tablet S the thickest of the Android tablets. However it is actually one of the lighter Android tablets at 590g, which is marginally less than the iPad 2
The Sony Tablet S has a 9.4-inch screen. It’s a little less than the typical 10.1-inch screens found on Android tablets, but short of a direct comparison, most users will likely not notice the difference. The display is one of the best when it comes to blacks, contrast and viewing angles but it is marred by being prone to scratching as is the rest of the case. Probably the most unique ability though is to be a PSOne and PSP compatible gaming platform.
It is the first Playstation certified Tablet ever – meaning you get out-of-box gaming with PlayStation favourites Crash Bandicoot and Pinball Heroes plus the opportunity to download games from the original Playstation titles online.
The built -in infra-red Universal Remote is compatible with any brand, so you can use it to control your TV, Blu-Ray Disc player, Hi-Fi system, even your cable box from your Sony Tablet. You can flip channels or adjust the volume of your entire entertainment system from one single screen.
The ports and connectors for the Sony Tablet S are also somewhat unique. At the top right o the fold is the majority of the ports. The audio jack is exposed and accessible at any time. At the bottom right of the tablet in landscape form is the power connector. which is an awkward location that makes it difficult to use at times. The remaining ports, a micro-USB port and full size SD card slot, are behind a small flimsy cover next to the audio jack. A surprising omission among the ports is an HDMI port.
The battery within the Sony Tablet S is a smaller one than in many other tablets on the market. In video playback tests, this yielded roughly eight and a quarter hours. This is quite good consider the size of the battery but is still less than the iPad 2 and Galaxy Tab.
Finally one should consider that it’s the apps bundled within that makes it more than just another Android tablet.

The bottom line: The wedge design makes for a better grip, but the real highlight of this tablet is its exclusive apps.
